Introducing Happy Smashies – Fluffy Potato Patties Filled with Goodness!
There’s something magical about turning humble ingredients into something hearty, joyful, and packed with flavour—and that’s exactly what we’ve done with Happy Smashies. These golden, crispy, smashed potato patties are pure comfort food with a purpose, made using rescued veggies, honest ingredients, and a whole lot of love.
Today at Creswick Town Hall, we served up three delicious flavours of Happy Smashies for our community lunch. Here’s the story behind them, along with our base recipe and flavour variations so you can try them at home!

Happy Smashies were born out of leftovers, love, and a need to feed the community.
We had a mountain of potatoes, a few veggies that needed saving, and a Sunday lunch to prepare. So we got creative—mixed everything together, shaped them into patties, and pan-fried them until golden.
They were simple, filling, and full of flavour. But more than that, they brought people together.
Now, Smashies are a regular favourite at Happy Scraps. They’re proof that even the most basic ingredients can become something joyful—with just a little care and a hot pan.
